Reject increasing Iowa's abortion options
Jan. 25, 2011 11:13 pm
Dr. Kermit Gosnell in Philadelphia was just charged with eight counts of murder. This included a woman seeking an abortion and seven newborns. He performed many late-term abortions and he is charged with allowing some of the children he was to abort to be born before taking their lives. Late-term abortions can be very gruesome even when done correctly.
Dr. LeRoy Carhart wants to perform late-term abortions in Iowa. Nebraska passed a law banning most late-term abortions, which sent him our way. Iowa now has a chance to pass a similar law, HF 5. I hope it passes.
Recently, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland announced a merger with the local affiliate. This could bring another type of abortion to Cedar Rapids. Planned Parenthood is expanding use of abortions via webcams and drugs in Iowa. Without a doctor's exam, these abortions could be fatal to women.
We don't need late-term abortions in Iowa and we don't need the local Planned Parenthood expanding services to include procedures that are potentially fatal to women.
