Unvaccinated Iowans unlikely to heed the state’s calls

Those of us concerned over the recent spike in COVID-19 cases in Iowa can take some comfort from the words of State Epidemiologist and Medical Director Dr. Caitlin Pedati. ("Iowa’s state epidemiologist: COVID-19 vaccine ‘most important thing that we can talk about,’“ Iowa Watch).
Unfortunately, her words fall on deaf ears in the Governor’s Office and state Legislature. Catering to her “anti-mask” supporters, the governor proudly signed a bill banning face mandates in schools while later posing with a woman with a sign indicating masks cause staph infections.
Apparently, she is more concerned about upsetting her “anti-mask” base and jeopardizing her future in national politics than she is about protecting the lives of Iowans.
