Gwen J. (Wren) Hesser, passed away at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.
A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, at the Cedar Memorial
Park Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, with the Certified Celebrant, Jim Parton officiating. A livestream of the service will be available under the obituary for Gwen Hesser, starting at 1 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 2.
Gwen was born on May 26, 1925, in Iowa City, Iowa. She was the daughter of the late Edward H. and Bessie (Norris) Wren. She attended Franklin High School in Cedar Rapids, and gained her Bachelor's degree in Speech and Dramatic Arts from the University of Iowa. On Dec. 29, 1948, Gwen married the love of her life, J. W. Hesser. Gwen was an avid crossword puzzle player, a bridge player and a devoted member of the PEO Sisterhood. Gwen loved her children, she loved music and dancing.
Those left to cherish Gwen's memory are her children, Karen (Lynn) Paris of Casa Grande, Ariz., Douglas (Marilyn) Hesser of Emerald Isle, N.C., and Sara (Kevin) Lamparek of Swisher, Iowa; her grandchildren, Nickolas, Scott Lamparek, Hannah, Matthew, Seth Hesser and Andy Paris; her sister, Beverly Wren; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.
Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Hesser; her parents; and a sister, Patricia Moehlmann.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff at the University of Iowa for all the care and support they showed to Gwen while she was in their care.
