Beautiful addition to Kingston Village

Just as Cedar Rapids is licking its wounds over the loss of the casino project, Fred Timko, the Godwin family, and architect Kim Schmidt give us the beautifully restored Louis Sullivan bank as Popoli, the elegant new restaurant on the west side in Kingston Village.
Probably the most iconic building in Cedar Rapids, the former Peoples Bank was designed by the world-famous architect, Louis Sullivan.
Schmidt accomplished a very successful conversion of a bank into an upscale restaurant and was very sensitive to the Sullivan design. He preserved the clerestory murals and the beautiful circular vault door, as well as the exterior lighting fixtures and terra cotta details.
It is a beautiful and significant addition to Cedar Rapids that will hopefully spark other development in the historic Kingston Village area.
Congratulations to Timko, the Godwins, and Schmidt!
