2014 Boys' State Basketball Tournament: Thursday's Roundup

DES MOINES - The last time the Dunkerton Raiders were at the boys' state basketball tournament, they won a championship. Friday, they put themselves into position for a repeat.Trevor Jacobsen hit four 3-pointers and scored 20 points and Dunkerton led from beginning to end in a 53-49 win over Belmond-Klemme in a Class 1A semifinal at Wells Fargo Arena. The Raiders (27-1) play West Lyon (22-5) for the 1A title Friday night at 6:05.Dunkerton is coached by Brian Brungard, who played on the Raiders' 2004 championship team. His top player is Kory Kuenstling, a 6-foot-11 Drake-bound senior, who had 12 points and 11 rebounds Friday.Kuenstling's brother, Kyle, was a teammate of Brungard's on that 2004 team. Dunkerton led after a quarter Friday, 18-9, and at halftime, 30-17.The Raiders shot a sizzling 64.7 percent.Belmond-Klemme (23-4) rallied in the second half but could never quite make it all the way back. Elijah Kinseth had 18 points and eight rebounds for the Broncos.WEST FORK 51, TREYNOR 46 - The Warhawks (25-1) advanced to the 2A championship game for the third time in four years.Evan Sprung led a balanced offensive attack with 14 points. Sam Amsbaugh added 13 and Hunter Myers 10.Treynor (24-2) nursed a one-point lead into the fourth quarter of a game that featured seven lead changes and eight ties. Jacob Flathers led the Cardinals with 12 points.DEWITT CENTRAL 54, WAVERLY-SHELL ROCK 52 - Kyle Bauer scored 11 points and the Sabers took down the defending Class 3A champs in their semifinal.Central (22-3) plays Dubuque Wahlert in Saturday night's title game.
