Waiting game continues on CR Washington's Wes Washpun
Apr. 7, 2011 2:08 pm
Cedar Rapids Washington guard Wes Washpun has yet to accept a basketball scholarship offer from the University of Iowa, Cedar Rapids Washington Coach Brad Metzger said this afternoon.
"He hasn't committed yet," Metzger said. "He's going down there tonight and talk. I don't know what he's going to do.
"Tennessee is meeting with a guard that committed to Bruce Pearl today and (Friday). I don't know what they're going to do. It's an unknown for most of us, but it is a period here of 48 hours where it seems like things need to be a little more clear and they probably will."
Iowa offered Washpun a scholarship Tuesday, a day after backup point guard Cully Payne obtained a scholarship release. New Tennessee Coach Cuonzo Martin previously offered Washpun a scholarship to Missouri State and is still talking to Washpun.
Washpun averaged 18 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4 assists a game for Washington, which qualified for the Class 4A state tournament. He and teammate Josh Oglesby, who signed a letter of intent to play at Iowa last fall, combined for nearly 40 points a game for the Warriors.
