UPDATE: A man robbed a southwest Cedar Rapids bank shortly after noon Tuesday, police said.
No one was hurt in the hold-up at Bank of the West, 3730 Williams Blvd. SW. Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said an unarmed man walked into the bank and passed a note to a teller around 12:15 p.m.
The man got an undisclosed amount of cash before he drove away in a dark-colored Chevrolet Trailblazer, witnesses told police. He was last seen going east on Williams Boulevard SW.
“It was just a matter of minutes the person was in the bank,” Hamblin said.
Witnesses described the suspect as a white male, about 5-foot-9 and 200 pounds, with an athletic build. He was wearing a white, long-sleeved, button-up shirt with the sleeves rolled up and a white baseball hat, police said. Both the shirt and the hat had some type of design on them.
Hamblin said investigators also would look at the footage captured by traffic cameras at Williams Boulevard and 16th Avenue SW. While not recording citations yet, it may have captured the suspect's get-away.
“We'll keep our fingers crossed,” Hamblin said.
