Vote for individual candidates, not party
The Gazette Opinion Staff

In November, the voters will be going to the polls to elect their representatives for federal, state and county offices.
In the past few years, the Democrats have had control of the executive branch of government, which is the president and governor, and the legislative branch of government, which is the House of Representatives and the Senate. The Democrats have done a poor job of representing the people.
When George Bush was president and Dick Cheney was vice president, and when the Republicans controlled both the House and the Senate, the Republicans also did a poor job of representing the people.
When Bill Clinton was president, even though he wasn't a perfect president, and with the Republicans having control of Congress, the people of the United States were all represented. That is known as checks and balances and is a true democracy. During the Clinton administration, we were at peace, had low unemployment, low inflation, had a balanced budget and no special interest group of dictators got their own way.
Do not vote for the Republican Party or the Democrat Party, but vote for the candidate who you think will do the best job of representing you.
A vote for the individual candidates is a vote for democracy. A vote for the Republican Party or the Democrat Party is a vote for a dictatorship.
