Opal June (Paul) Gish, 93, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2021. A memorial service is at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 25, 2021, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with visitation one hour before the service. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A livestream of the service may be accessed on the Cedar Memorial website under the obituary for Opal June Gish, under the video tab starting at 11 a.m.
Opal was born Jan. 17, 1928, the daughter of Omar and Leatha (Johnson) Paul in Mount Vernon, Iowa. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1945 and Cornell College in 1949 with a bachelor's degree in economics and business administration. On Aug. 5, 1950, she married the love of her life, Bernard "Bernie" Gish in Lisbon, Iowa. She worked for KGAN-Television for 22 years. Opal was a member of Kenwood Park and Echo Hill Presbyterian Church. She served as an elder, deacon, bell choir, and other various committees.
Survivors include her son, David (Shari) Gish of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two stepgrandsons, Trevor (Megan) Dursky and Blake (Shayla) Dursky; grandson, Kendon Gish; granddaughter, Shantell (Trent) Smith; great-grandchildren, Victory, Violet, Everett, Emberly and Baby Girl Smith; and sister, Alyce Marie Paul Bramers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Bernie; and brother, Vernon Lee Paul.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
