Neal H. Smith, 81, passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at Unity Point-St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Per Neal's request, there will be no services. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Neal was born June 20, 1940, in Cedar Rapids to James H. and Evelyn M. Eilers Smith. He was married to Judy Bahle on Sept. 7, 1963.
Survivors are his wife, Judy; son, Craig of Stanwood; and daughter, Carmen Smith of Ankeny.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Neal attended Iowa State University and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree of Animal Science. He then went to Boys Town, Neb., to be their herdsman, before coming home to Stanwood to run the Century family farm and raise livestock with his dad. Neal loved his livestock, judging livestock shows, and supporting young kids showing livestock. He was an avid supporter of the Cedar County Fair and enjoyed going to the Iowa State Fair. He was a Farm Bureau member and Iowa Cattlemen Association member, as well as many other associations through his life. Neal was a man of few words but always was thinking and observing, as well as a loving husband and father.
