To the editor:
The library has been a constant in my life. My mother started taking me to the Cedar Rapids Public Library when I was about five or six in 1942 or 1943. We did not have much money, and we had no car, so traveled downtown on the bus. When I was older, I rode my bicycle. My family seldom traveled outside of Linn County, but the books I read opened up a universe to me.
Now, as an elderly women who have traveled the world, whenever I step into our beautiful Cedar Rapids Public Library, I feel as if I have come home. In order for the CRPL to continue to open up the universe for new generations, in order for it to be a place like home to all members of the community, we must pass the library levy this fall.
