Cedar Rapids Airport Commission accepts $2.5 million grant

The Cedar Rapids Airport Commission on Thursday voted to accept a $2.5 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration.
The funding will pay for a portion of the federal government's share of the $46.8 million reconstruction of the main runway at The Eastern Iowa Airport. The rehabilitation of the 8,600-foot runway and intersection with the airport's secondary runway was completed in September.
The federal government picked up 87 percent of the total project cost and the airport paid for the remainder with airport user fees. The Eastern Iowa Airport is a self-sustaining operation that does not receive property tax revenue from any source.
