Collecting patients’ credit scores a violation

Thank you to The Gazette for the April 20 article bringing to light the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics practice of collecting information on patients' credit ratings. It is hard to believe that this is even allowed by the credit reporting agencies and disappointing to learn the UI Hospitals and Clinics takes part.
Regardless of what UI officials say is done with the information, the core issue seems to be the fact that this is done without patients' knowledge or consent. This is clearly a violation of personal privacy.
