Money given away but not for mentally ill
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Shame on you, Iowa legislators and Gov. Branstad, for giving $3 million to a ship to be restored (that very few Iowans will ever see) when all across Iowa residential care facilities for the mentally ill are having to close their doors, moving people out of their “homes' because it's not in the budget to keep them safe and give them a good quality of life.
Shame on you, Linn County Board of Supervisors, for approving hundreds of thousands of dollars to go toward computer equipment rather than the mentally ill who are getting kicked out of their safe environments. A place that has provided security, support, guidance and, for some, a family. Asking questions like “Why do I have to leave my home? What have I done wrong?”
Shame on me for believing that the board makes decisions for the good of people rather than for the good of technology.
