Giunta represents the best of Iowa, America

I suspect that every person in Eastern Iowa was walking around this week with a chest that is a bit broader. Each of us is filled with a great sense of pride and gratitude to a great young man from Hiawatha.
While watching the ceremony alone in my home on Tuesday, I found myself standing and applauding when Staff Sgt. Salvatore Giunta received his much-deserved Medal of Honor.
Congratulations, Sergeant. You represent the best of Iowa and America. Like all the greats from this neck of the woods, you didn't talk the talk, you walked the walk. I am honored to live in a community that claims you as one of its own. You made us proud and we will never forget you or your deeds that day.
Best wishes to you and your family. When people Google the word “hero,” your picture should be there forever.
