Portion of Third Street NE closes permanently for convention center project
City Hall reports that the one-block stretch of Third Street NE is now closed forever.
You had until just after 2 p.m. today to take one last drive on Third Street NE under The Ballroom attached to the Five Seasons Hotel and U.S. Cellular Center.
The street is closing in preparation for the demolition of The Ballroom and everything in the block next door except for The Roosevelt. The demolition is a prelude to the construction of a new convention center, part of the footprint of which sits on what is now Third Street NE.
