Iowa did well with redistricting process

Iowans can be proud of our state government as the process of redistricting was concluded with the governor's signature on April 19. Iowa is unique among the 50 states in the process we use. As president of the League of Women Voters of Cedar Rapids-Marion, I hear about comments of League members in other states. Each state I heard about reported redistricting processes based on closed meetings and an opaque process dominated by party interests. Their legislators' energies are being sidetracked by a cumbersome, often bitter process of redistricting.
When League members in other states heard of Iowa's transparent, solution to redistricting, they were envious. Congratulations to citizens, legislators, governor and especially the Legislative Services Agency for a job well done.
