CEDAR RAPIDS -- Mount Mercy University has received $300,000 from Transamerica Life Insurance Co. for its University Center.
To recognize Transamerica's contribution, a second-floor corridor in the 43,500-square-foot University Center has been named the Transamerica Corridor. Transamerica has a long history of supporting Mount Mercy students through endowed scholarships and capital projects, as well as through a program that matches employee contributions.
Built between the twin pillars of Regina and McAuley residence halls, University Center is the first construction project in Mount Mercy's Campus Master Plan. The facility was officially opened during Mount Mercy's Homecoming celebrations on Sept. 30, 2011.
The $5 million University Center houses a new Commons, the dining center, the campus store, four conference rooms and numerous offices, including student life, admissions and student engagement. The facility also includes a new pedestrian plaza, outdoor terrace and new green space.
Mount Mercy broke ground for the University Center in May 2010.
