Chandler Topic Evans, 56, of Ankeny, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, of kidney and liver failure. A memorial service will take place at 3 p.m. Friday, July 30, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A Celebration of Life will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 31, at the Ankeny Band Shell, 410 West First St., Ankeny, IA 50023.
Chandler was born on March 14, 1965, the son of Allen and Virginia (Topic) Evans. In 1985, he graduated from Washington High School. Chandler was united in marriage to Susan Morrison on Sept. 10, 1994. The couple divorced in 2006, but remained great friends. They co-parented and raised two amazing children. Chandler started his sales career at Nevada Bob's, then worked for Mizuno Golf. He finished his golf career with Nike Golf & Apparel. After his sales career, he decided to pursue his dream of opening The Wheel House Pizza and Pub, this was his passion and his dream that he opened in Ankeny in 2013. When he opened The Wheel House, every Christmas and Thanksgiving he would open the restaurant for guests who didn't have a place to go – his patrons and employees at Wheel House were his second family.
Survivors include his children, Mason Evans and Payton Evans, both of Des Moines; sister, Julie (Lee) York of Cedar Rapids; niece, Jessica (Damien) Fairbanks of Vinton, Iowa; great-nephews, Dallas, Eli and Kinnick Fairbanks; and former spouse, Susan Evans.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen Evans and Virginia Tolle; maternal grandparents, Peter and Virginia Topic; paternal grandparents, Wilber and Althea Evans; stepmother, Coleen Evans; stepsister, Michelle Jenney; and great friend, Joe Snyder.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
