Base closure decision on students’ interest

I've been watching the news on the proposed Cedar Rapids school closings. I think the school board and the superintendent need to take a second look at the long-term consequences of their actions. If they feel children are just numbers filling seats, they are in the wrong profession.
Children with no real voice in this decision need people who think they matter. Being poor is not a reason to discount students and remove them from a school where they feel safe, happy and smart. America is great because we all matter.
Look how valued an education is to those who are denied equal schooling in other countries. Please take another look before you decide to close neighborhood K-5 schools. Board decisions could make a real difference for a young student down the road by keeping schools open.
