WAYNE TEAKELL
Cedar Rapids
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Wayne Teakell, age 82, at UnityPoint-St. Luke's Hospital on Thursday, July 8, 2021. Following a brief illness, our Heavenly Father called him home peacefully with his devoted wife and family by his side.
Wayne was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who spent his life loving others and filling their lives with laughter. He was cherished by all who met him and left an indelible mark on our hearts and minds. Wayne will be profoundly missed by his wife and best friend of 65 years, Lea Juan, with whom he shared a deep love, mutual respect and a life focused on the simple pleasures; his sister, Violet June; his children, Leslie Skelton (Johnny) and Wayne Teakell (Pauline); and grandchildren, Apryl (Nate), Heather (Ritesh), Benjamin (Lacey), Dayna (Daniel), Jarred and Austin, to whom he instilled an appreciation for cornbread with milk, camping, fishing, John Wayne movies, Looney Toons and taught by example "how the horse nibbles corn" (if you know, you know), as well as the gift of unconditional love.
He will also be treasured and missed by the great-grandchildren who brought him immense amounts of joy and whom he made giggle endlessly, Mitchell, Karissa, Charlie, Grayson, Sophia and Mathyus.
He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and his spiritual family at the Central Church of Christ, where he was affectionately known through the years as the "gum man" to the congregation's youngest members.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Cora Teakell; sister, Lenora; sister, Ida Belle; sister, Wanda Lee; brother, Wilmer Gene; and brother, Rusty.
Born Aug. 30, 1938, in Sayre, Okla., Wayne married his high school sweetheart in 1956 shortly before deploying in the U.S. Navy, where he served four years. Following the Navy, Wayne worked for Central and Frontier Airlines, eventually retiring from Frontier in 1986. Not one to sit idle, Wayne then began working for Road Machinery & Supplies Co. (known at the time as Herman M. Brown) where he was employed until his permanent retirement in 2001.
In keeping with Wayne's wishes, no funeral service will be held. Those who would like to, may donate in Wayne's name to the following organizations (or a charity of your choice) where his legacy will be upheld in continued service to others:

Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate his life and find comfort knowing that he is in heaven watching over us. We encourage you all to honor his memory by humbly serving others, loving them fiercely and finding reasons to laugh every day.
