Quarterfinal football capsules for area teams:

BETTENDORF at IOWA CITY WEST (4A)

Time & site -- 7 p.m. Friday, at Trojan Field

Records & rankings -- No. 4 Bettendorf is 10-1; West is 9-2.

Notable -- After beating up on a pair of league foes in the first two rounds, Bettendorf is the lone MAC wolf standing among the four 4A East-side quarterfinalists. The Bulldogs have the best scoring defense in 4A at 8.5 points per game, but it will be severely tested by the explosive Trojans. West averages 43 points per game and has piled up 104 in its first two playoff wins. Iowa State recruit Charles Rogers has rushed for 1,168 yards and passed for 1,992, and has accounted for 39 touchdowns. Dondre Alexander has 63 catches for 958 yards. Bettendorf's Blake Younkin has rushed for 656 yards and 13 TDs.

CEDAR FALLS at CEDAR RAPIDS WASHINGTON (4A)

Time & site -- 7 p.m. Friday, at Kingston Stadium

Records & rankings -- No. 6 Cedar Falls is 10-1; Washington is 8-3.

Notable -- Giant-killer Washington put another notch in its belt Monday, shocking No. 2 Linn-Mar, 28-26, reversing a 56-7 loss to the Lions in the regular season. The Warriors also have impressive wins over both Iowa City schools, and another upset Friday would put them in the semifinals. Washington scored two touchdowns in the final 5 minutes to overcome a 26-14 deficit at Linn-Mar, with Braedon Tovey's 3-yard TD pass to Flynn Heald providing the winning points. This is Cedar Falls' first -- and only -- trip outside of the UNI-Dome in the postseason. The Tigers have allowed a touchdown apiece in their first two games, against Muscatine and Iowa City High. Barkley Hill has rushed for 2,196 yards and 35 touchdowns while James Harrington has 33 catches for 689 yards. Heald has 58 receptions for 899 yards to lead the Warriors.

LISBON at LONE TREE (A)

Time & site -- 7 p.m. Friday, at Lone Tree

Records & rankings -- No. 1 Lisbon is 11-0; No. 6 Lone Tree is 10-1.

Notable -- These teams got together Oct. 7 at Lisbon, with the host team picking up a 35-7 victory that ultimately decided the district title. Lisbon leads Class A in scoring offense at 52.2 points per game, and its defense is tops as well at 5.6 points per game despite giving up a bunch in a 44-33 second-round win over Lynnville-Sully. Lone Tree, meanwhile, squeaked past BGM, 14-13. Lisbon's Ben Knake has passed for 920 yards, and also has intercepted four enemy aerials. Levi Reitzler has rushed for 809 yards and 15 touchdowns for Lone Tree, and Bryan Forbes has picked off eight passes, the second most of Class A defenders.

POSTVILLE at MASON CITY NEWMAN (A)

Time & site -- 7 p.m. Friday, at Mason City

Records & rankings -- Both teams are 10-1. Postville is ranked eighth; Newman is No. 3.

Notable -- It's a matchup of the District 5 and District 6 champions, and a rematch of a Week 9 non-district battle. Newman won that one, 42-7. The Knights blasted through No. 4 North Tama by a surprisingly lopsided 31-7 count in the second round. Postville got past Don Bosco, 27-21, in overtime as Zach Steffans hit Riley Brockway for a touchdown pass after the Pirates held Don Bosco on its OT possession. Postville's Cody James has rushed for 945 yards and also has 115 tackles to his name. Joseph Burgmeier has rushed for 1,369 yards for Newman, while Gabe Dunn has completed 71 percent of his passes.

MAQUOKETA at UNION (3A)

Time & site -- 7 p.m. Monday, at La Porte City 

Records & rankings -- No. 8 Maquoketa is 10-1; Union is 9-2.

Notable -- The Union Knights gained fame for ending Solon's four-year title run with a 39-24 second-round win. Now they try to reverse their fortunes against the Cardinals, who captured a 35-15 decision in the regular season. Union has won five straight games since then as Wes Burnside has piled up the yards -- 1,646, to go along with 27 rushing touchdowns. Maquoketa has won 10 straight games, all by 14 points or less, since a season-opening defeat against West Delaware. Craig Johnson has rushed for 1,456 yards while Chase Coakley has passed for 1,615. The Cardinals' defense has allowed just 10.1 points per game. Monday's winner advances to the semifinals for the first time.

WEST DELAWARE at DECORAH (3A)

Time & site -- 7 p.m. Monday, at Decorah

Records & rankings -- No. 7 West Delaware is 10-1; Decorah is 9-2.

Notable -- Talk about familiarity. When these teams collide Monday, it will be their fourth meeting in two years. West Delaware won two of the first three, including a quarterfinal game last year (35-7) and this season's regular-season meeting (38-21). Both teams were extremely impressive in the second round: Decorah dropped top-ranked Clear Lake 24-8 while West Delaware scored 36 second-half points in a 39-28 conquest of No. 4 Webster City. West Delaware possesses two 1,000-yard rushers in Sam Lahr (1,688) and Trey McTaggart (1,023). Josey Jewell has rushed for 1,122 yards and collected 101 tackles for Decorah.

DYERSVILLE BECKMAN vs. CLARION-GOLDFIELD (2A)

Time & site -- 7 p.m. Monday, at Cedar Falls (UNI-Dome)

Records & rankings -- No. 7 Beckman is 10-1; Clarion-Goldfield is 7-4. 

Notable -- Beckman takes an eight-game win streak into the game, and the Blazers have been extremely tough defensively. They've allowed six points in their two postseason games and have held eight of 11 opponents to double-digits. Beckman also possesses an explosive passing attack: Robbie Anstoetter and Ty Troutman have combined for 60 catches, and both average more than 20 yards a catch. Connor Golden has thrown for 1,794 yards and 27 touchdowns. Clarion-Goldfield upset North Fayette in the first round, then followed that up with a 44-29 win over Forest City. The Cowboys are a run-heavy unit, led by Dominic Brandt (1,428 yards) and Wyatt Sann (1,363). 

IOWA CITY REGINA at MEDIAPOLIS (2A)

Time & site -- 7 p.m. Monday, at Mediapolis

Records & rankings -- Both teams are 11-0. Regina is ranked No. 1; Mediapolis is No. 4.

Notable -- It's 25 straight wins and counting for Regina, which has disassembled its opponents this year by a combined margin of 544-61. Nobody has come closer than 26 points of the Regals. Jacob Vollstedt has rushed for 1,137 yards and 19 touchdowns while Joe McCaffery has added 837 yards and 13 TDs. Vollstedt has added 69 tackles. The Regals will be tested by Mediapolis' air game. Jesse Ertz has completed 124 of 213 passes for 2,479 yards and 29 touchdowns and six interceptions. Jacob Darbyshire has 35 catches for 865 yards and 12 TDs.

ALBURNETT at WEST BRANCH (1A)

Time & site -- 7 p.m. Monday, at West Branch

Records & rankings -- No. 7 Alburnett is 11-0; West Branch is 9-2.

Notable -- When Alburnett defeated West Branch 42-35 in Week 3, the Bears were 1-2, and their win was a one-pointer. Now, eight wins later, the Bears look very West Branch-like. Alburnett, meanwhile, is enjoying its best season in school history. The Pirates hadn't won a playoff game until this season, and now stand a win away from their first trip to the UNI-Dome. Both teams had to rally in the second round: Alburnett overcame a 10-0 deficit to get past Wapsie Valley, 13-10, while West Branch came from behind to beat Turkey Valley, 27-20. Alburnett's Mitchell Harger is the state leader (all classes) with 2,560 rushing yards and has scored 38 touchdowns. Cade Jones has rushed for 1,560 yards and 25 TDs.
