Culver sees flood risks; Branstad does not

Flooding is a fact of life in the Midwest, so we'd better plan for it. An examination of Terry Branstad's website, news releases and public statements reveals that flood planning is not a concern; in fact, he has to be asked about it.
By contrast, Gov. Chet Culver has been active, especially in Cedar Rapids, to rebuild our community and to make it safer from floods in the future. Among his actions are the I-JOBS program which includes a $30 million disaster mitigation fund, the creation of an Iowa Flood Center at the University of Iowa, investments in watershed repairs and improvements, and funding for the DNR flood plain management program.
If you think flooding is not a fluke and want someone who understands that, then Culver deserves your vote.
