Carolyn "Lyn" Ann Dickey, 78, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Monday, July 5,
2021, at Emery Place Assisted Living in Robins. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 16, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion. A Funeral Mass will take place at
10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion officiated by the Rev. David O'Connor, with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion. Lyn was born on May 9, 1943, in Austin, Minn., the daughter of Francis and Anna "Marie" (Bruzek) Huinker. She attended high school in Austin, Minn., and went on to attend Mankato State in Mankato, Minn., receiving her teaching certificate. On June 1, 1968, Lyn was united in marriage to Jan Gary Dickey at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. She was a teacher for over 30 years in the Cedar Rapids School District, teaching at Wilson, Harding and Kennedy High School. Lyn enjoyed sewing, writing and traveling with Jan, both domestically and abroad. She loved spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters. Lyn will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Lyn is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 53 years, Jan Dickey of Marion; two sons, Kevin (Mia) and Scott (Beth), both of Marion; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Marie Huinker; and one brother, Thomas Huinker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lyn's memory may be made to either Oak Shade Cemetery c/o Marion Parks and Recreation at 343 Marion Blvd., Marion, IA 52302, for storm clean up; or to the Cedar Valley Humane Society at 7411 Mount Vernon Rd. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403.
