Use tax dollars to rebuild Lake Delhi

I have read and heard comments that the dam at Lake Delhi shouldn't be rebuilt because the only real purpose was providing recreational use for the public. This is a bad thing?
As a teenager growing up in the Marion area, I had two choices to pursue my water activities with friends. Lake Delhi and Coralville Lake. These were the two places we had close by to camp and ski. Iowa was not blessed with an abundant number of lakes like Missouri and Minnesota.
I understand when people say they don't want their tax dollars used to rebuild the dam, especially if you don't like to go boating or fishing. But I never complained when my tax dollars went toward helping to restore museums or theaters. I just understood that people enjoy all sorts of different activities, and when an unpreventable disaster strikes, our nation should be able to restore those activities that are dear to our hearts.
I do start to complain about the use of our tax dollars, when I hear news of our government not able to account for $9 billion in Iraq reconstruction.
Delaware County and the Lake Delhi Recreation Association could have used just 0.1 percent of that money.
