This episode of On The Record talks last week's federal trial of William Aossey, Jr.
The 73-year-old founder of Midamar was convicted of 15 charges related to mislabeling and falsifying export certificates on shipments of halal. According to evidence at trial, Aossey changed required U.S. Department of Agriculture labels and stamps, which misrepresented that the beef being exported met the strict slaughtering standards of the foreign country.
The jury acquitted Aossey of four counts of money laundering, and Aossey faces more than five years in federal prison.
