Folk, Velma Schilling
Velma Schilling Folk, 95, of Clarence, died Saturday, March 6, 2010, at the Clarence Nursing Home. Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Chapman Funeral Home, with Pastor Lynn Butterbrodt officiating. Visitation: 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Burial: Clarence Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to Clarence United Methodist Church.
Velma was born June 14, 1914, in rural Clarence, to William and Susie (Robinson) Schilling. She married Howard Folk on Oct. 3, 1948, in Clarence. He died Nov. 26, 1985. She attended Clarence Schools and graduated in 1932. She graduated from Tipton Junior College on May 29, 1935. She attended the University of Northern Iowa for one year in 1936. Velma worked at Clarence Cooperative Company and Thein Motors in Clarence. Later, she worked in Davenport where she met Howard and was employed by Von Maur. Velma and Howard loved to go to Wisconsin and Minnesota during summer months fishing. They also traveled throughout the country with Tri State tours. Velma was a lifelong member of the Clarence United Methodist Church, She was church organist and sang in the choir for many years.
Survivors include her nephew, Phil (Diana) Schilling of Cedar Rapids.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Marvin Schilling.
