CEDAR RAPIDS WASHINGTON at LINN-MAR
- Time & place: 7:15 p.m., at Armstrong Field.
- Records: Washington is 2-1; Linn-Mar is 3-0.
- Notable: The state's biggest surprise in Class 4A, Linn-Mar goes after its third win against a Metro foe. Jer Garman is the 4A state rushing leader at 596 yards on 63 carries with seven touchdowns. No. 7 Washington rebounded nicely from its Week 2 debacle with a win over Cedar Rapids Prairie last week. Andre Dawson and Shay Gutman have combined for 520 rushing yards.
CEDAR RAPIDS XAVIER at CEDAR RAPID S KENNEDY
- Time & place: 7:15 p.m., at Kingston Stadium.
- Radio: KGYM-AM (1600).
- Records: Xavier is 1-2; Kennedy is 2-1.
- Notable: Kennedy has chosen its 42nd Street archrival for its homecoming foe. The Cougars' Royce Bell has 491 rushing yards, averaging more than 10 yards per carry. Xavier has dropped two straight, but the last defeat was a gutsy 24-17 loss to No. 1 City High. Xavier QB Joe Sayre is third in 4A in passing yards (628); his favorite target is Colin O'Conner (24 catches, 357 yards).
CEDAR RAPIDS JEFFERSON at CEDAR RAPIDS PRAIRIE
- Time & place: 7:15 p.m., at John Wall Field.
- Records: Jefferson is 0-3; Prairie is 2-1.
- Notable: Prairie hopes to rebound after suffering its first loss, 28-7 to Cedar Rapids Washington. The Hawks are allowing a meager 146 yards of total offense per game. Jordan Aune has three INTs in three games. Jefferson had its best all-around performance of the season last week in a loss to Cedar Falls.
VINTON-SHELLSBURG at MARION
- Time & place: 7:30 p.m., at Thomas Park Field.
- Records: Vinton-Shellsburg is 1-2 overall, 0-1 3A-4; Marion is 3-0, 1-0.
- Notable: It's Breast Cancer Awareness Night, with fans of both teams wearing pink shirts and both teams wearing pink socks. Marion climbed into the 3A ratings at No. 8 after forcing five turnovers and routing DeWitt Central, 49-21, last week. Six different players scored TDs. Vinton-Shellsburg's Clint Ferguson has rushed for 492 yards on 54 carries.
NORTH CEDAR at IOWA CITY REGINA
- Time & place: 7:30 p.m., at Regina.
- Records: North Cedar is 1-2 overall, 0-1 2A-5; Regina is 3-0, 1-0.
- Notable: They don't come much more balanced than the 2A fourth-rated Regals, who are averaging 148 yards per game on the ground and 144 in the air. Regina has allowed only 10 points. North Cedar's Jacob Edleman has three INTs, two for touchdowns.
SUMNER-FREDERICKSBURG at CASCADE
- Time & place: 7:30 p.m., at Cascade.
- Records: S-F is 3-0 overall, 1-0 2A-4; Cascade is 3-0, 1-0.
- Notable: Three ranked unbeatens reside in this district (North Fayette is the other), and these two collide. No. 3 Sumner-Fredericksburg hasn't allowed a point, outscoring its first three foes, 124-0. No. 8 Cascade's Evan Ressler has dominated on both sides of the ball. He has rushed for 430 yards, has 24 tackles, three fumble recoveries and an interception.
WEST DELAWARE at DECORAH
- Time & place: 7:30 p.m., at Decorah.
- Radio: KMCH-FM (94.7).
- Records: West Delaware is 3-0 overall, 1-0 3A-3; Decorah is 2-1, 0-1.
- Notable: No. 9 West Delaware allowed its first points of the season last week against Waukon, but still rolled to a 29-7 win. Brandon Domeyer leads the ground game (379 yards) while Brett Yonkovic (27-42-2, 401 yards, 6 TDs) spearheads the air attack. Decorah hopes to rebound from a 26-14 loss to New Hampton last week.
WASHINGTON (Iowa) at WILLIAMSBURG
- Time & place: 7:30 p.m., at Williamsburg.
- Records: Washington is 2-1 overall, 1-0 3A-5; Williamsburg is 2-1, 1-0.
- Notable: No unbeatens remain in 3A District 5, and a favorite has not yet emerged. Williamsburg has posted back-to-back shutouts, including a 21-0 district-opening win over Fairfield. Washington knocked off Mid-Prairie two weeks ago, then followed that with a 34-20 win over Oskaloosa.
MID-PRAIRIE at MEDIAPOLIS
- Time & place: 7:30 p.m., at Mediapolis.
- Records: Mid-Prairie is 2-1 overall, 1-0 2A-6; Mediapolis is 3-0, 1-0.
- Notable: Both teams kicked off district campaigns with decisive wins - Mid-Prairie walloped Louisa-Muscatine, 55-0, while Mediapolis handled Central Lee, 42-12. Mid-Prairie's Tanner Miller has rushed for 384 yards on 59 carries, with five touchdowns.
WEST BRANCH at WAPELLO
- Time & place: 7:15 p.m., at Wapello.
- Records: West Branch is 3-0 overall, 1-0 1A-5; Wapello is 3-0, 1-0.
- Notable: Wapello's march to 3-0 has been a major surprise - the Indians were 2-7 last year - while the Bears' unbeaten start has been somewhat expected. Cole Kelly spearheads the West Branch running attack; he's netted 445 yards on 40 attempts with six touchdowns. Nine Bears have at least 10 tackles.
