John V. Johnson, 87, of North Liberty, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2021. Private family services are planned. Memorial donations may be directed to St. Jude Children's Hospital. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City is handling arrangements.
Born Nov. 7, 1933, in Williston, N.D., the son of Vernon and Grace (Sykes) Johnson, John grew up in Williston and, while in his junior year at Willison High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Infantry during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952.
Returning to Williston, John repeated his junior year of high school. He was very active in many sports and school activities. While busy with school and all the extra-curricular activities, John had the time to meet Jocelyn Carter. After graduation, the couple were married on March 31, 1956 in Williston. They moved from North Dakota to West Liberty, Iowa, where John worked for the Louis Rich Co. He later transferred to the Iowa City Procter & Gamble, where he worked until retiring after 28 years at P & G.
John is survived by his daughters, Lisa Potts of North Liberty and Misty (Jason) Lee of Oxford; grandchildren, Chris (Carrie) Lee and Jenny Stimmel (Jerry); two great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Boedy; and a sister, Alice (Terry) Keefer of Indiana.
