Second-String Sportswriters Football Selections

We've got faces for radio and voices for the newspaper. This week a few of us SourceMedia Group sportswriters will make the same selections on our multiple websites as the stars who appear in the Saturday morning version of The Gazette. Here's our chance to shine:

JEFF JOHNSON

• Iowa 24, Michigan State 17 – I hate to be all homer-ish here, but I really think the Hawkeyes will win.
• Iowa State 31, Kansas 14 – I'd worry about a hangover if I were ISU, but the Jayhawks are really bad.
• Penn State 35, Michigan 34 – Name two also-rans in the Big Ten. Bet you'd never thought you'd say that.
• Last week: 0-3; Overall: 14-10

SCOTT DOCHTERMAN

• Iowa 23, Michigan State 17 - This game is bound to give someone heartburn.
• Iowa State 44, Kansas 21 - After the Utah loss, I vowed to never pick the Cyclones again or at least until they beat Texas. To my great surprise, it wasn't eternity.
• Michigan 38, Penn State 34 - I just don't know who's going to win the battle of the stoppable force (Penn State's offense) against the movable object (Michigan's defense). Ah, it's Michigan.
• Last week: 1-2; Overall: 13-11

JEFF LINDER

• Iowa 21, Michigan State 18 – What do the residents of Dickeyville do to harass the Hawk fans now that there's a bypass? .
• Iowa State 38, Kansas 24 – Do you know what to expect next from the Cyclones? Neither do I.
• Penn State 24, Michigan 19 – Let's all say it together: “Irrelevant.”
• Last week: 0-3; Overall: 18-6

K.J. PILCHER

• Iowa 17, Michigan State 14 – Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Ferentz won't allow Hawks to play the fool a third time, getting a last-second FG from special teams to win it.
• Iowa State 26, Kansas 18 – For Halloween, Kansas is going as the Oklahoma Sooners. Unfortunately, Jayhawk fans, they grabbed the costume of the 1996 Sooners from the discount bin.
• Penn State 31, Michigan 27 – JoePa's first Halloween memories were when he and Moses went trick-or-treating as Cain and Abel.
