Bigots jumping on the anti-court bandwagon
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Dec. 29, 2010 3:39 pm
Some say it is time to move on. N. William Hines, Professor of Law at the University of Iowa, thinks not (Dec. 26 guest column), as do I. There is blood in the water and hides to tan! The bandwagon is rolling and the cowards and bigots are jumping on for the ride into darkness.
Overstated? Are you kidding me? Bob Vander Plaats and the other doorkeepers of family values, wrapped in the American flag and the glory of the good Lord, are now demanding that the remaining Iowa Supreme Court Justices get out while the getting is good. Impeachment talk is in the air. You believe what you want to believe. We are looking at pitchforks, torches and corn whiskey right in the eye.
If you think that same-sex marriage is going to undo our culture, ignorant as it is, that is your business. When you start advocating the destruction of one of the cornerstones of representative democracy, namely a judicial branch that decides cases based on logic and the rights of all citizens, you are messing with my business and that of others who have lived the nightmare of bigotry, clothed in flags and the glory of whichever God you happen to worship.
