Iowa Straw Poll is meaningless in selection process
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Aug. 21, 2011 12:08 am
I am amazed by the attention the Iowa Straw Poll got from the press, even the world press. Only 17,000 people, who each had a $30 ticket, participated in the poll. Any candidate with $30,000 to spare could have given away 1,000 tickets and bussed people in.
Furthermore, the only specific action any of the candidates proposed was outlawing abortion and same-sex marriage. These issues are not important compared to the economic and international problems that our country faces. The event is meaningless in the selection process of a presidential candidate.
