Dutchik tallies 31; Regina runs by Iowa Valley

IOWA CITY -- Moments after the final buzzer, Zoe Dutchik split."She ran to the doctor quick," said Iowa City Regina Coach Clark Anderson. "She's a little under the weather."You sure couldn't tell.Dutchik converted 13 of 17 shots in a 31-point, eight-rebound masterpiece as Regina dusted Iowa Valley, 69-40, in a Class 2A girls' basketball regional quarterfinal Tuesday night at Regina High School."Zoe hasn't been feeling well, but obviously it didn't hinder her play tonight," Anderson said.Regina shot 56 percent from the field (28 of 50), improved to 19-3 and marched into Friday's regional semifinal. There, the Regals will face Grundy Center (14-9) at Meskwaki Settlement School, Tama.Grundy Center beat Gladbrook-Reinbeck, 73-63, Tuesday.Tuesday's game matched teams with similar records (Iowa Valley retired at 18-5), but Regina got in front early and widened the margin throughout."We had good positive energy from the get-go," said Anderson, in his first year as a head coach. "We were able to get out and run the floor, yet we were able to get back on defense."The Regals stormed to a 10-2 lead and enjoyed a 17-9 margin after one quarter, 37-21 at the half."It was just a good team effort," said freshman Jenna Lehman, who posted 11 points, seven rebounds and six steals. "When we play together like this, we play good."Dutchik, a junior, made 11 of 13 shots for 26 points through the first three quarters. She sat out the final few minutes of the game, then made a hasty exit to see a physician.Nine Regals scored. Sydney Lehman added nine points.Gina Svare led Iowa Valley with 15 points. Miranda Rathjen contributed 12 points and eight boards.
