Steger joins elite group of Bobcats

Western Dubuque's Nick Steger joined a select club of Bobcat wrestlers last weekend. The Class 3A ninth-ranked 125-pound junior moved into 10th on the school's all-time win list. Steger improved to 29-5 this season, placing third at Clinton's Bob Lueders Invitational. He is now 101-23 in his career."He is a hard worker and a great kid," Western Dubuque Coach Tom Danner said in an email.Steger is just the second wrestler in school history to surpass 100 career wins, joining Bobcats career wins leader Jim Gotto. Steger sits two wins shy of Kurt Wolf (2002-06) for ninth and six away from Justin McCarthy (2000-04) for eighth.The Bobcats, ranked 15th in the Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association dual team rankings, are 5-0 in the Wamac conference and faces East Division co-leader West Delaware (16-5, 5-0) in a triangular at DeWitt Central Thursday. West Delaware is ranked fourth in 2A, and the Sabers are just a half-win behind both schools in the Wamac East standings.
