Starting Sunday, a violation caught on Cedar Rapids red light cameras will get you a ticket. Police officers will review each violation and decide whether it warrants a ticket.
Until now, police have only issued warnings for the camera's fixed at intersections. Cedar Rapids police say they've sent more than 200 warning letters to divers in the month since the cameras started going active.
Right now, only three red light cameras are active: at the corners of 10th Street and First and Second Ave Southeast and at Second Ave and Sixth Street Southwest. Contractors are installing five more at other intersections across the city and one more on Interstate 380.
Police also have a mobile radar camera. Officers have already issued dozens of speeding tickets using that system.
