Weipert understands, meets job requirements

I support Travis Weipert for Johnson County auditor. He understands and meets the requirements of the job.
While the post of auditor entails many responsibilities, one of the most important, and certainly the most prominent, is that of commissioner of elections. The voting public needs to be completely confident in the process and the outcome. And the auditor needs to be completely committed to expanding voting rights and accessibility.
Iowa's Secretary of State seems bent on voter ID requirements that would make voting more difficult for several groups of Iowans. Rather than trying to make the secretary's ideas workable, the Johnson County auditor should stand firmly for the principle that the constitutional right to vote should not be subjected to restrictions. There is no evidence of voter fraud that would support such legislation. Here in Johnson County, we expect our elected representatives to lead. Weipert will lead on this issue critical to voters and the performance of the office of auditor.
I know first hand that primary elections can be difficult. Elected office is different from other jobs by the very nature of the process. Our system offers those of us privileged to hold elective office an opportunity every two or four years to go before the voters and offer our own rationale for continuing to hold office. It's our responsibility to make our own case. In my experience, that process works the way it's designed to work.
Join me in voting for Weipert on Tuesday.
