CEDAR RAPIDS - Police say a medical condition caused a crash Thursday on Highway 30.
Emergency crews responded to the crash along Highway 30 between the I-380 and Bowling Street interchanges at about 1:25 p.m. Thursday.
When they arrived, they found a 62-year-old driver of a semi had been westbound and suffered an apparent heart attack. The semi crossed the median and stopped on the other side of eastbound Highway 30.
There was a volunteer Ely Firefighter, a nurse practitioner and an EMT that stopped at the crash. They performed CPR on the driver until emergency crews arrived. The driver was taken to Mercy Hospital where he was in critical condition.
There was an additional property damage accident and a hit and run as a result of this accident. No one was injured in the additional accidents.
