CR district announces summer four-day work week

CEDAR RAPIDS -- Cedar Rapids school district support offices at the ESC at Kingston Campus, 931 Blairs Ferry, and the Transportation site will operate on a four-day work week from June 14 through July 30. The offices in these locations will be open Monday  through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. during this time.

The summer schedule will allow the district to lower utility costs by raising office thermostats and not operating equipment Friday through Sunday. The district doesn't have an estimate on how much money will be saved.

"Until we try it for a year, we're not going to know," said Marcia Hughes, district spokeswoman.

All district offices will return to the Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. schedule on Aug. 2.
