Mathis' willingness to listen should be applauded

In Todd Dorman's column on Oct. 16, I was disappointed with his criticism of Liz Mathis' willingness to listen to her would-be constituents (before rendering a position) on the issues.
One problem with today's politics is the disconnect between the politician and the people they are to represent. For Mathis to respond to a question in this manner should be applauded, not criticized. The greatest attribute of a leader is the ability to listen before reacting. I believe Mathis has it.
