Plan for 81 new Ellis homes is ill-advised
Recently The Gazette reported that a developer wants money from our city to build 81 homes on small lots near Ellis Park. When are our city fathers going to wake up?
If they want another slum area of cracker box homes, they're on the right track. The proposed development has little or no off-street parking and roads so narrow that emergency vehicles will be challenged. Why not use some common sense and have a developer build about 40 middle class homes on this land?
Many of the buyers of these homes would be moving up from lower-priced homes, which would open up more affordable housing, help our tax base because the higher-priced homes would be paying more in property taxes and save our city from paying to have houses built.
I never even mentioned how happy the neighbors would be. Maybe I'm just too logical.
