No one was hurt when a man with a gun robbed a Cedar Rapids convenience store Thursday, police said.
Officers responded around 8 p.m. to a hold-up alarm at Hawkeye Convenience Store, 250 16th Ave. SW, but the suspect was already gone. According to a police report, a man displayed a handgun and demanded money. One of the two female clerks started handing money to him, but he came behind the counter and helped himself, police said.
At some point, one of the employees tripped the hold-up alarm to notify police. The suspect ran out of the store with a small amount of money, police said.
The suspect is described as a black male wearing all dark clothing, including a hooded sweat shirt, black gloves, dark shoes and a scarf covering the bottom of his face. Witnesses told police he appeared to be between 5-foot-8 and 6 feet.
Officer Melissa Henderson said investigators have obtained surveillance video and were reviewing it to find more clues. She said they were trying to determine if a vehicle was involved.
An investigation was continuing. No arrests have been made.
