To the editor:
The Feb. 19 article 'Ukrainian president asks world for aid” was very informative. However, the writer should have included why Eastern Ukraine and Crimea should be part of the Russian Federation. Both regions contain populations that have a majority that are Russian.
For two centuries Crimea was part of Russia. In the early 1950s Nikita Khrushchev, the Soviet leader, who was from Ukraine, gave Crimea to the Republic of Ukraine.
The Western nations should not oppose the establishment of these new Republics as part of the Russian Federation.
