Hartley, Harold W.
Harold W. Hartley, 64, of Hiawatha, died Aug. 25, 2010, in his home following a sudden illness. Inurnment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.
Surviving are his sister, Barbara Tharp of Des Moines; niece, Ginger Arnburg, and her three daughters, Jasmine, Hailey and Lacey, all of Des Moines; nephew, Wyatt Tharp of Illinois, and his daughter, Daja; nephew, Cody Tharp of West Des Moines; as well as several close friends and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Harold Walter Hartley was born July 4, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Harold R. and Harriet (Longstreth) Hartley. He graduated from Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School and later attended Kirkwood Community College. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy, receiving the National Defense Service Medal and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for his service in the Dominican Republic. He went on to serve two years in the Naval Reserve. He was employed for several years at Midland Forge and received an award for 10 years of safe working in 1993.
He was a longtime member of the National Rifle Association, and enjoyed target shooting at the Linn County Izaak Walton League in Cedar Rapids. He had several awards for practical shooting from the Black Hawk and Cedar Rapids Area Practical Shooters. He also had a great love for his cats.
