Gun-control laws could have disastrous results

Regarding Mr. John Johnson's Feb. 11 opinion letter titled: “Uniformly enforce conceal-carry licenses.”
Once again, Johnson offers the public anti-gun propaganda based on warped ideology and misguided facts. The real killers are gun-control advocates.
Consider the following facts:
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated. Turkey, China, Guatemala, Uganda and, most recently, Cambodia did the same thing. Defenseless people slaughtered in the 20th century because of gun control exceed 60 million.
In the 1980s and 1990s, I lived in Washington, D.C. We had an average of 500 murders a year. Why so many? The answer was “gun control.” After politicians outlawed guns, the only people who had them were criminals.
Mr. Johnson and myself can agree to “uniformly enforce conceal-carry licenses.” Beyond an extensive background check, every non-felon Iowan should have the right to carry in every city and county without restrictions from a few, the minority, local county sheriffs. Pass the law that states the same.
