Voters in the June 5 Democratic primary in the Iowa House 73rd District have two fine candidates to choose from. Both have long records of public service and community engagement. Both are thoughtful, well-informed and reasonable people. But there are differences. It is because of those differences I support Dave Johnson.
I have known Dave for more than 20 years and I can assure you that he always has been a member of the democratic wing of the Democratic Party. Dave's perspective is not that of some Democrats who believe that the well-being of bankers and corporations should be their primary concern with the hope that the financial elites will see to the well-being of the rest of us.
I have always known Dave to have the interest of workers, the middle class and those with the greatest needs as a guiding value shaping his political views. Dave has an integrity and commitment rarely found in today's political environment. For example, Dave doesn't accept corporate political action committee money. You can be sure that money will never influence Dave's positions or votes.
As a member of the West Branch City Council, Dave has gained experience in examining issues from a broad perspective on a wide range of issues affecting all members of the community. Balance, vision, insight and a great deal of thoughtfulness are required for the job, as in the Iowa House, and Dave has those qualities.
