Ronald Dean Pettit, 67, of Solon, passed away with
loved ones by his side on the evening of Sunday, June 27, 2021, from complications of a brief illness at St. Luke's Hospital. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 2, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place at
1 p.m. Saturday, July 3, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A Celebration of Life will be held at the
Eagle's Club in Cedar Rapids, directly following the service.
Ron was born on July 14, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, to Gerald Calhoun (Gus) and Leona Viola (Meyers) Pettit. He attended Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids, and joined the U.S. Army, during the Vietnam War. He married Kerrie Jean Smith on Dec. 21, 1974, in Rock Falls, Ill. He owned and operated Ron's Coins in Cedar Rapids for the past 41 years.
His greatest joy in his life was his family. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He has always had at least one dog, and absolutely cherished his animals. He enjoyed vacationing in the Southwest and horseback riding. His customers in his business were very near and dear to his heart. Ron was a giving man, and only cared about making everyone happy.
He is survived by his wife, Kerrie of Solon; daughter, Lisa Pettit (Adam) of Cedar Rapids; son, Bryan Pettit (Marie) of Marion; son, Chad Pettit (Traci) of Marion; five grandchildren, Austin, Blake, Brayden, Leona and Vivian; one sister, Diana Lillian Willey of Hattiesburg, Miss.; two aunts, Margaret Behrens and Shirley Meyers; several nieces and nephews; as well as his dog, Denali.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Joseph Dewayne Pettit, Thomas Allen Pettit and Terry Lee Pettit.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the family.
