Iowa reports 117 new COVID-19 cases

Iowa on Wednesday reported 117 new COVID-19 cases, with a seven day average of 73 cases and a positivity rate of 2.63 percent.

Black Hawk, Polk and Webster counties each reported double-digit increases in new cases — 11 in Black Hawk and Polk and 10 in Webster.

Linn County reported two new cases in the 24-hour period ending at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Linn’s seven-day average for new cases is down to four — the lowest it’s been since three cases were reported June 17, 2020.

Johnson County reported six new cases, with a seven-day average of two.

Statewide, 373,823 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed since March 2020.

Deaths

Four new, confirmed deaths, including one in Linn County, were reported Wednesday.

The four deaths all happened in June, involving two individuals between 61 and 80 and two age 81 and older.

The deaths were reported in Dubuque, Linn, Marion and Pottawattamie counties.

The new deaths bring Iowa’s COVID-19 death toll to 6.138 since March 2020.

Vaccinations

As of 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, 1,434,335 Iowans had been fully vaccinated.

That’s 53.59 percent of Iowans 12 and older, and 45.46 percent of all Iowans.

In Linn County, 116,950 residents 16 and older had been vaccinated. That’s 64.81 percent of that population, and 51.59 percent of the county’s total population.

In Johnson County, 86,726 individuals 16 and over are fully vaccinated, for 69.76 percent of that population and 57.38 percent of the county’s total population.

Hospitalizations

The number of COVID-19 hospitalizations increased from 66 to 70.

Of those, 21 were in intensive care, an increase of three from Tuesday. The number of individuals on ventilators inched down from 11 to 9.

Long-term care facilities

Three long-term care facilities continue to experience outbreaks, with 35 individuals sick, an increase of one from Tuesday.
