Oelwein man charged with willful injury

An Oelwein man faces a willful injury charge after officials say he assaulted a man at an Oelwein home early today.
Fayette County sheriff's deputies were called to Mercy Hospital in Oelwein at 12:27 a.m. in reference to an assault that had taken place earlier at 16724 10th St. in Oelwein. After investigation, Robert Joseph Conner, 42, of Oelwein was arrested and charged with willful injury.
The victim in the incident was later transferred to an Iowa City hospital for treatment of facial lacerations and possible skull fractures.
Conner was taken to the Fayette County Law Enforcement Center, where he was held for a magistrate appearance.
The Fayette County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Oelwein Police Department.
