Darlene J. Coover, 76, died Saturday, June 26, 2021, at her residence in Sioux City, Iowa. A memorial service will be 10:30 am Wednesday, June 30, at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel, 1801 Morningside Ave., Sioux City, with visitation one hour prior. Darlene Jean Milks, the daughter of Rayburn and LaVon (Pettit) Milks, was born Sept. 27, 1944, in Iowa City, Iowa. In 1970, Darlene was united in marriage with James Coover Sr. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After raising her children, Darlene attended nursing school in Decorah, Iowa, and graduated as an LPN in 1982. She was employed as an LPN for 23 years before her retirement in 2006.
Darlene enjoyed crafts, including knitting, crocheting and quilting. She also enjoyed reading and watching TV, especially the Food Network and DIY Network.
Darlene is survived by her husband, James Sr.; children, Carrie (Dale) Coover of Wellston, Okla., John (Shirley) Carmichael of El Reno, Okla., Michelle (Lionel) Murphy of Yankton, S.D., James Jr. (Kelly) Coover of Arlington, Texas; stepchildren, Theresa (Pat) Dillon of Cedar Rapids, Jimmy Coover of Cedar Rapids, Jerry Coover of Cedar Rapids, Brenda (Chuck) Lincoln of Cedar Rapids, Karen Odem of Portland, Ore., and Courtney Coover of Tecumseh, Okla.; 29 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a sister, Geraldine Marston of Sioux City; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
