For the fifth year, Discerning Eye, 119 E. Washington Street is sponsoring their “Eye Gave Back” campaign, which takes place Dec. 1-31 to benefit the Johnson County Crisis Center.
Discerning Eye will donate $20 for each frame sold in December to help fund the Crisis Center's Food Bank program.
Since 2006, Discerning Eye has donated over $27,000 to the Johnson County Crisis Center. DE's owner, Joni Schrup and her son, Sam, are both graduates of the University of Iowa and have a strong commitment to give back to the community.
Discerning Eye was awarded the 2011 Small Business Partnership Award by the Crisis Center of Johnson County.
Last month, the Crisis Center Food Bank provided nearly 4300 individuals with supplemental food bags. Financial gifts to the program are used by the Crisis Center to buy basic food items at a substantial discount over retail prices. Community donations provide the remainder of food distributed to households. The Crisis Center distributes over 85,000 pounds of food per month.
